University of Toledo officials say they want to revamp a neighborhood next to the school to create a college-town feel. The university's foundation has spent more than $3 million buying property along a street near the southwest corner of campus, including the recent $1 million purchase of a gas station.

Strong gusts of wind this morning knocked out power around northwest ohio.Traffic lights at many intersections, like Airport and Reynolds Roads, were out.
Toledo Edison still has 386 outages, mostly in Lucas County.
They should be restored by midnight, Sunday.

Icy road conditions made it difficult for the cities of Toledo and Oregon to pick up your trash.The Toledo Solid Waste Division says crews were busy all day today collecting trash that was not picked up Thursday and Friday.
Amy Wood, Solid Waste Manager says, "It's a problem because the residents are used to having it picked up and the ice gave us slick conditions and we didn't want to put anyone in danger and start at it today."

An oil leak has forced the shut down of the Davis Besse Nuclear Plant. The leak was found in the non-nuclear area of the facility.Engineers found the leak on Wednesday and are cleaning and testing the area this weekend. First Energy says the plant should be generating power again early next week.

Hundreds of local children will get to make a wish, thanks to local restaurant-goers. Applebee's on Central Avenue, children came together for a morning of fun and plenty of food. It's an ongoing charity where customers can donate a dollar at the end of their meals and all money goes to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Nearly everyone in the Detroit area has a family member or knows someone involved in the industry, and the uncertainty of its future, along with the recession, is painting a definite pall over the holiday season.Hopes for government help have been seesawing all week. The House on Wednesday approved a plan endorsed by the White House to provide $14 billion in loans, only for it to run into opposition from Republican senators Thursday night.
Then, the White House said Friday that it would consider using part of the $700 billion financial industry bailout to help the car companies. There were few details Saturday about the size or length of the help while Bush administration officials talked with the automakers.

A team from the commission on accreditation for law enforcement agencies will be looking at the Toledo Police Department. They'll examine the department's policy, procedure, management, operations and support services.
Chief Mike Navarre says, "It's something that I feel is very important, accreditation is a symbol of excellence for the police department, it shows the constituents that you serve that you are competent and that you excel."
The accreditation process is voluntary and takes a lot of time. But Chief Navarre says it was a promise he made when he was hired.

The Northwest Ohio High School Hockey Conference is collecting money this weekend for two players who were recently hurt. Dustin Wells and Kyle Cannon both suffered partial paralysis last weekend after being injured in two separate games. You can donate money at hockey games this weekend or at any Charter One Bank in the area.

A recent National Institute of Mental Health study noted that about 4.2 million Americans - or 1.4 percent - are addicted to gambling. As women worked to achieve equal status with men, they also achieved it in gambling.

A Missouri man was pardoned by President George Bush for accidently killing three bald eagles back in 1995. Leslie Owen Collier was among 14 people pardoned by Bush on Monday. The president has granted just 171 pardons overall - less than half as many as the other most recent two-term presidents, Bill Clinton and Ronald Reagan. "What happened really was regretful," Collier said.
